Dan was born August 29, 1929 in Salina, KS and later moved with his family to Topeka, KS where developed his passion for baseball, jazz, and journalism. He graduated from Topeka High. In 1951, he graduated with a BA in Journalism from Wichita University where he met the love of his life, Diane Welsh. Drafted by the US Army in 1952 and earning the rank of Sergeant, Dan worked as a Journalist for the Army Home Town News Center in Kansas City during the Korean War until 1954. Dan and Diane were married on May 15, 1953. Dan began his professional career with The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT in 1954 and in 1975 joined Insurance Management Associates (IMA) of Wichita, where he had a successful career building their Employee Benefits Department. He retired from IMA in 1997 as Sr. Vice President. Dan and Diane are longtime members of Rolling Hills Country Club where Dan made many friends. Dan was an avid lover of jazz, Stan Musial and the St. Louis Cardinals, trips to Colorado with his family and winters in Arizona. His philanthropic work included the Wichita Y’s Men and various positions at First Presbyterian Church. His parents, Oscar and Hazel Nyberg, precede Dan in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Diane Welsh Nyberg; brother, Ben (Lyndall) Nyberg; daughter, Karen S Nyberg; son, Glenn (Camille) Nyberg; daughter, Kristi (Steve) Nyberg Goetting; granddaughters, Morgan (Kevin) Orlando, Samantha Goetting, Tatum Goetting; and grandson, Erik Nyberg.
